The Portable Festival of Portable Art

BRING YOUR OWN ART!
Saturday, 27 June from 1-5 PM, at the Centennial Pavilion Observatory on Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton.
The Portable Festival of Portable Art is an experimental exhibition arranged by Institute Parachute and held in association with The Works Art & Design Festival. The festival-within-a-festival will feature games, sculptures, conceptual experiments, and whatever unnanounced participants bring.
The Portable Festival of Portable Art explores the idea of an exhibition without walls. Bring something that you can carry and does not require a gallery to function: ie. puppet shows, collapsible or flying objects, balloon sculpture, time machines, science experiments, dramatic play, speeches, research presentations, robots, magic tricks, concept bands, bicycles, etc.
A Press Release and Poster are available for download.

Cabinet Gallery
The Cabinet Gallery is a portable gallery of art with miniature works by friends and members of Institute Parachute. It is currently available for viewing by appointment only.
1. We, Institute Parachute (a collective of young artists), have created the Cabinet Gallery: a portable gallery of miniature works which we curate and produce ourselves. It is an experiment in creating a self-sustaining artistic system outside of the institution of the commercial gallery. 2. This space is intended to make our work accessible to those who do not otherwise shop for art in commercial galleries. We want viewing and purchasing art to be made possible for those excluded from the existing commercial market for economic or ideological reasons. 3. Art is our profession: despite difficult conditions for emerging artists we are constructing an autonomous structure to make art possible. 4. Our small art is grounded in DIY activism and speaks to the semi-nomadic lifestyle of our generation.
